On October 17, 2009, 270 alumni gathered for the the 7th Annual Congress of U.S.G. Sponsored exchange programs. Both alumni as well as other prominent members of the community joined the event at Leogrand Convention Center in Chisinau. The Congress registration started at 10:00 and lasted for an hour. During this time, participants had the opportunity to meet fellow alumni, read through the informative materials they received at registration, and have a coffee while networking. The offical ceremony, moderated by Daniela Munca, 2008 Muskie alumna, started with a welcoming speech by Mr. Asif J. Chaudhry, United States Ambassador to Molodva. Lilia Fusa, 2008-2009 Alumni Board president reported on the alumni activities initiated by the Board in the previous year. The official part of the event culminated with an award ceremony, where 8 active alumni were given the “Best Alumni Award” for their dedication and contribution to the development of the alumni community. The year’s best alumni were: Daniela Munca, Viorel Dilion, Dan Donici, Andrei Cusnir, Silvia Strelciuc, Gheorghe Caraseni, Leonid Rosca, and Galina Burduja. After a short break, the participants were divided into three thematic groups. The group “Mass Media and Communication” was moderated by Corina Cepoi (2002 Muskie alumna) and Ecaterina Lutisina (2008 FLEX alumna). Gheorghe Caraseni (1998 IV alumnus) and Cristina Poleacovschi (2005 FLEX alumna) led the discussion on “Education and Civil Society”. The group “Business and Economy” was moderated by Veronica Arpintin (2004 CC alumna) and Dan Donici (2008 FLEX alumnus). During these thematic meetings, alumni brainstormed about different projects that they would like to implement during the upcoming year. At the end of the meetings, participants completed the voting ballots and joined the reception, where they continued to make plans for the upcoming year and network with other alumni. The event culminated with the announcement of the election results, according to which, the 2009-2010 Alumni Board was formed. The alumni Board will meet for the first time on October 28, 2009.
